Editing
What mistakes have you missed? Which lines are unclear or don’t sound right?
Editing is one of the most important parts of ensuring a game’s quality. Typos look unprofessional. Mismatched dialogue text and audio makes accessibility feel like an afterthought. Creating characters and story without sensitivity consulting can make you miss big issues.
Copyediting:
Scan all text for typos, punctuation mistakes, and missing or extraneous words
Analyze text for clarity, brevity, and end-user functionality (i.e., will the average player read this?)
See where more text is necessary, and where it gets in the way
Sensitivity consulting:
Identify issues with sensitive subjects and find ways to adjust
Recommend lived experience experts and connections to help advise on a variety of stories and characters
Adapt individual lines or entire storylines to maintain the game’s original intent while considering all kinds of players
Subtitle parity:
Ensure that all voice lines match all subtitle text
Find and fix issues that make the game worse for deaf or hard of hearing players
Does the subtitle timing match the voice line delivery?
